A NEW SERIES
‘The polar bear & the ice table’ is part of the ‘Room portraits’ series by Damien Nicolas Roux. In this new series of drawings, the artist usually focuses on the duo between a work of art and an animal. He playfully imagines our pets in our homes. What are they doing? What attracts their attention in these magnificent settings? This drawing is an exception to the series. The work on the wall is not by a well-known artist. It takes on the appearance of a porthole on a lost ice floe.
PORTRAITS OF INTERIORS
In his drawings, Damien Nicolas Roux draws inspiration from the work of decorators who are more or less well known to the general public. His freedom as a facetious artist sometimes leads him to slip one of his own works into this ideal interior. Damien Nicolas Roux is also a visual artist, creating obelisks and pyramids in cardboard and brass. They fit in perfectly with the décor. The work is within the work, but so is the artist, since he plays at hiding his signature (DNR) in his drawing, can you see it?
In this latest instalment of the series, the artist has chosen the transparency and softness of watercolour. His work is always surprising and accomplished, mixing references to painting, architecture and the decorative arts.
WE LOVE FINDING OUT MORE
‘The polar bear & the ice table’ evokes the loss of bearings for this bear lost in a world that is no longer his own.
