Bar at Leuven - uk “China – 1”, an urban scene in contemporary China, done on paper with diluted Indian ink (washing).
“China – 1” is a work on paper in Indian ink by Duytter.
The composition, the framing, the light, the banality of an urban scene taken “on the spot” and fixed for eternity, everything in Duytter’s washes recalls the photographic aesthetic. Observe how the figure on the left seems dazzled by the low-angled light, notice the long shadows on the sun-bleached road.
And yet, if you look closely, each line remains in the rough, far from photographic precision.
It is precisely this duality that makes Duytter’s paintings so charming, like “China – 1”.
