The “Fountain Saint-Louis”, is a card by Amandine Maria.
The city of Aix-en-Provence is said to have 100 fountains. Most of them are pleasant urban places, some of them are private and inaccessible to visitors. One can pass in front of the Saint-Louis fountain without seeing it, because it is at the intersection of two boulevards with heavy traffic.
With this drawing in an atypical format, Amandine Maria remedies this injustice done to this pretty little building. She forgets about the cars and ignores a whole part of the city to describe instead, in minute detail, the countryside to the east of the city, the plateau of Mont Sainte-Victoire and the Bibemus quarries dear to Paul Cézanne.
The poetry of this “walking map” by Amandine Maria is also in the texts drawn in Indian ink. They describe the artist’s reflections at the time of her wanderings, like the association of ideas: “Lac de Bimont cut-out leaf”.
You don’t have to be a local to adopt this beautiful part of the city and its mythical countryside.
