“The Hori”, is a contemporary painting on paper mounted on canvas.by Philipe Croq.
Philipe Croq’s drawing and painting invite us to dream and dialogue with our childhood: dreamlike forms, the world of the circus, animal, human and plant figures, sometimes evanescent, sketched, imperfect, images that leave us free to tell ourselves stories.
For more spontaneity, Philippe Croq first works on paper, only once his painting is finished does he maroon it on the canvas. Here the page seems to have been torn out of a binder before being glued. Far from trying to hide the imperfections of the collage, the artist seems rather to have provoked them and even brought them to the fore, at least that is what the borders of the painting suggest, giving it a real authenticity.
“The Hori”, remains a very enigmatic title. And with Philippe Croq, what could be more normal than to leave it up to the spectator to do his part of the journey. Everyone will make their own interpretation, guided by the drawing, the text, the colour…Discover the artist
